It is known that having a great response time in case of outages and proactively monitor services before a breakdown occurs is critical to keep customers happy. Nagios Core does exactly that and way more. However, be warned, integration is terribly hard if you want to do advanced configuration. There is a lot of sysadmin/networking/software knowledge that needs to be covered before you get this very special type of monitoring so you may find yourself with small snags that don't let your dream monitoring service come alive but at the end, it is totally doable with Nagios Core. > > **Puntos en contra**: Documentation could be better organized and a few additional GUIs for quick configuration would be a desirable thing. The main interface is very very lean, probably old-style with html4-like visuals and controls but it is effective and light. We basically had an issue with implementing custom plugins to monitor essential aspects of our business, Python scripting was needed but getting this to work effectively on Nagios was another issue. If there are questions we have, we can rely on the skillsets of our administrators, and fall-back to online documentation/community support. -Multi-platform endpoint support: Monitoring Windows/Linux servers/workstations is possible, and is leverage in our environment for hundreds of endpoints. -Adding nodes to monitor is simple: Nagios core functionality resides in just a few configuration files. One for monitored endpoints, one for the each of those endpoints' services, and group policies for different profiles of alerting/escalation settings -On-call escalations: We use Nagios Core to notify on-call staff of outages for services for multip teams, via email and SMS messages.
